Orange Cream Cookies

13 Mar

It’s amazing how the slightest alteration can make something so good even better. Case in point these orange cream cookies, which are basically white chocolate chip cookies with the addition of orange extract and zest.

I fell in love with white chocolate chip cookies in high school when my girlfriend worked at Ms. Fields. I would truck there everyday after school and wait for a freshly baked white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. It quickly became my all time favorite. I started making them in my early adulthood but was burdened by the high cost of macadamia nuts, so I made them without and realized they were just as good if not better.

Anyway now I’m really off track….. back to the orange cream cookies! These things are mouth-watering good and if you have ever made chocolate chip cookies (which I’m sure you all have) then these will be a sintch. Orange and Cream Cookies

Yields about 4 dozen

3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp cornstarch

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed light-brown sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp orange extract

1 Tbsp orange zest

2 cups white chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda and salt, set aside.  In the bowl of an electric mixer, whip together butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.  Stir in eggs 1 at a time mixing after each addition.  Mix in vanilla extract, orange extract and orange zest.  Slowly add in dry mixture and mix until well incorporated.  Gently stir in white chocolate chips. Drop cookies by heaping tablespoonful’s onto a buttered cookie sheet and bake 9-11 minutes.  Allow to cool on cookie sheet several minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
